LOOMIS, Calif. ––Frank Bailey, a 52-year veteran of scouting and a scouting ministry specialist, has been named scouting coordinator for the California-Nevada Annual Conference.

The father of three adult children says his scouting career began as a Cub Scout in1958. He attended the national jamboree in 1964 and he became an Eagle Scout in 1967. The following year, he led a Loomis troop on a 50 mile hike in Desolation Valley and served as a security guard for the National Jamboree Trading Post in Farragut, Idaho.

Bailey participated in a 1962 junior leader training course and he came back to teach the course in 1970.  He was an instructor at the 1969 and 1970 Order of the Arrow training sessions

“I saw an advertisement for the position of scouting ministry specialist in the conference newsletter,” said Bailey. “I applied and was accepted. This position has allowed me to be involved in two of my passions at the same time. I am currently the advancement chair for the Sierra Gateway District which is part of the Golden Empire Council. As such, I meet many of the Eagle Scout candidates in the district and I chair the Eagle Boards of Review.

Bailey has served as a member of the Cal-Nevada Conference since 1996 representing Sunnyhills UMC, and later First UMC, Loomis. He currently serves on the Conference Board of Discipleship.

He served Sunnyhills UMC as the treasurer/financial secretary and chair of the Finance Committee. He also chaired the Administrative Council and served on the Nominations Committee.

At First UMC of Loomis, he was again elected chair of a Finance Committee. He also chairs the Oriental Food Bazaar, a fundraising event held annually for the last 50 years.

A National Medal of Merit winner, Bailey is now available to help conference churches understand how scouting can be a way to minister to the community and reach unchurched families.

Bailey and his wife, Diane, are parents of three adult children Erin (Bailey) Moore, Timothy Bailey and Jacob Bailey. Erin’s daughter, Lydia is almost three years old. Diane works for the Sacramento Ballet.
