TUCSON, Ariz. ––Doug Wright, a veteran Scout leader, a former U.S. Air Force officer and president and founder of Commercial Investors Realty, Inc. has been named scouting ministry specialist for the Desert Southwest Conference. He was certified in June 2010 by the Nashville-based General Commission on United Methodist Men.
He now serves as scouting coordinator for the annual conference.
4-H Foundation
Wright is vice president of the Board of Trustees for the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation, an agency now serving over 142,000 young people across Arizona. His late father, Graham P. Wright, was one of the founders of the Arizona 4-H Foundation and he introduced the program to most of 21 federally recognized Native American tribes in Arizona; Graham Wright was inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame in October 2010.
Boy Scouts
Doug Wright is in his 17th year as vice president of major-gift and endowment efforts for the Catalina Council of Boy Scouts of America. He held the same position in Area IV, Western Region, BSA since 2006 and is currently the vice president for Area VI, a position he has held since 2008.
In 2009, Wright led the entire Western Region of the Boy Scouts in total gifts and endowment gift categories. Through two decades of scouting leadership, his endowment efforts have enabled the Western Region Councils to receive $30 million.
In 2002, the Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver Award winner was given one of the first Glen McLaughlin Awards for raising over $5 million each year from 1997-1999 for the Catalina Council.

Real estate career
Wright’s 36-year real estate career began in Florida and includes developing half a dozen major projects such as luxury and assisted living apartments, office and hi-tech R&D buildings, shopping center, and residential subdivision properties.
In April 2011, Wright was elected by his fellow realtors as a director of the 4,500-member Tucson Association of Realtors.
Air Force career
Following graduation at the University of Arizona (B.S. in aerospace engineering), he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and served in Thailand as avionics maintenance officer. While in service, he participated in a three-year MBA program at the University of Utah and earned his commercial pilot, multi-engine, instrument, flight instructor ratings.
Local church leadership
A member of First United Methodist Church in Tucson, Wright founded the endowment and investment committee, and he chaired the committee for seven years. He also serves on the Stewardship Board of Directors and the usher team.
