NASHVILLE, Tenn. –– The National Association of Conference Presidents of United Methodist Men, meeting March 3-6 in Nashville, agreed to raise $10,000 to support Stop Hunger Now event in  Durban, South Africa during the August World Methodist Conference.
 
Stop Hunger Now provides volunteers the opportunity to package dehydrated, high protein, and highly nutritious meals that are used in crisis situations and in feeding programs for schools and orphanages in developing countries around the world.

“Every six seconds a child dies from hunger,” said Larry Malone, president of the men’s affiliate of the World’s Methodist Council and former staff executive with the Commission on United Methodist Men.

Persons attending the Durban conference will place rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and 21 vitamins into plastic packages to be delivered to the host nation. Malone said the group hopes to package 4 million meals over a 5 day period. Total cost of the packaging event will be $1 million.
