Spend next February in Florida
If you’re interested in scouting and staying warm in February, consider attending the Florida Sea Base UM Scouting Ministry Workshop, Feb. 17-20.
Susan Lawyer, a scouting ministry specialist in Houston, will serve as director of the course. She will be assisted by Cliff Coan, a scouting ministry specialist in the Central Texas Annual Conference. Larry W. Coppock, national director of UM scouting ministries, will serve as staff adviser.
Workshop topics will address ways to transform your local church scouting program into a ministry, scouting ministry specialists, youth and church recognition awards, Venturing, and more
In case you are not convinced. Listen to what participants in the 2013 workshop had to say:
“The Sea Base training was my first with UMM, after the Scouting Ministry Specialist training," said Jackie Burgess. “The course was well designed and very informative. But the best part (beside the opportunity to be in the Florida Keys) was the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and experiences with other civic organization leaders in the UMC and to begin new friendships. I highly recommend this opportunity.”
“For me it was an opportunity to see the work of the church on the path of the Scout,” said Steven S. Scheid of Orangeburg, S.C. “It helped our church to grow even more in the scouting ministry. We have become a true ministry at Red Bank UMC. The scouting trail has offered so many Emmaus moments I really cannot describe. The scenery of our adventures will make a man to dream for a life time. The chance to serve and be served will make a man look to heaven.
The $375 cost covers lodging for three nights, eight meals, snacks, materials, and training. Bring your spouse for $175. Participants pay their own travel.
