It is with deep sadness to hear of the passing of NACP Past President John Dowell. John was the president of the National Association of Conference Presidents (NACP) from 2008 to 2012.
Mr. Dowell joined the United Methodist Church in 1984 and served as lay leader for 12 years, chair of the Administrative Council, church treasurer, and taught Sunday school for 11 years.
Prior to being elected NACP president, John served a variety of positions in UM Men, including local church president, district president, Florida Annual Conference president and president of the Southeastern Jurisdiction. He also faithfully served on the General Commission on UM Men Board of Directors and the UM Men Foundation Board.

“John Lewis Dowell 87, went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2021. He was born in Evansville, Indiana to Alvin and Catherine Dowell. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines and was a Golden Gloves Champion. John was the owner of Action Printing for over 25 years and in his retirement years he took up gardening. He was a member of the Lake Magdeline United Methodist Church, deeply involved in 35 plus years and Leadership of the United Methodist Men. He is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings; John is survived by his loving wife Betsy of 35 years; two daughters; three granddaughters, one grandson and numerous great grandchildren.” (www.loylessfuneralhomes.com)
