GREENEVILLE, Tenn.--Fire destroys barn at children’s home
In 2003, Holston UM Home for Children and UM Men worked more than 1,500 hours to renew a 98-year old barn so it could be used for an equestrian program. A December fire destroyed the barn along thousands of dollars’ worth of tack, 40 bicycles, and 1,000 bales of hay. The six horses and three cats who resided in the barn escaped the 3 a.m. fire unscathed. The children who live at the home, and care for the animals, were in their beds.
Originally an orphanage, the home now serves more than 400 children and their families on any given day though family service centers located throughout East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
