UMM is working to implement a new model and vision of men’s ministry. We believe that the result will be men involved in all four areas of focus which will reach the world for Christ. United Methodist Men are responding to the four areas of focus in the following ways:

Developing principled Christian Leaders…

  • Training UM Men leaders for ministry of Jesus Christ through Advanced Lay Speaking Course.
  • Training Men’s and Scouting Ministry Specialists to serve in every conference.
  • Training and equipping leaders in Central Conferences in scouting and men’s ministry with on-site visits and on-line courses.
  • Training youth to be effective, caring leaders in church and community through ministries with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Campfire.

Chaplain of Dallas Cowboys to speak at Richardson church

RICHARDSON, Texas––John Tolson, chaplain of the Dallas Cowboys NFL team, will be the major speaker at a March 30 event at First United Methodist Church here.

Tolson, founder of a disciple-making ministry that has helped one million men achieve success in life, family and business, is author of Take a Knee, a book based on the locker room messages he gave as chaplain for the Cowboys.

Addressing the theme of the day, “Discipleship—Get in the Game,” Tolson sees Jesus’ disciple-making efforts through a three-phase process: learning, following and reproducing. “Most often it is the reproducing phase that tends to be forgotten,” says Tolson.

The day-long event will include two plenary sessions, lunch, and several breakout sessions that will answer questions such as:

  • What are the best practices in men’s ministries?
  • What are the best practices in scouting ministries?
  • Why are younger men missing in my church?
  • Where can I get resources for being a disciple and making disciples?

The event is sponsored by The United Methodist Men at First UMC Richardson, the South Center Jurisdiction United Methodist Men and the General Commission on United Methodist Men. Sessions begin at 9 a.m. and will conclude at 5 p.m.

Registration for this event and lunch is $99 per person. Any church that registers three men can bring their pastor without charge.
