The Society of St. Andrew, the national gleaning ministry, has two Advent programs that may be of interest to you and your church.
The free Advent devotional booklet, "Passing the Peace," will guide you toward Christmas with daily readings to aid your preparation for Christmas Eve. The booklet also provides a way to contribute to feeding the hungry in America. All details are at http://www.endhunger.org/advent.htm.
The Alternative Gift Christmas Card program is a way to send Christmas greetings to friends and family, to let them know that you have fed hungry Americans in their name, and to share God's love in a real way with strangers in need. Learn about this program at http://www.endhunger.org/card/ACC-Card.htm.
Global Health
UMM is working to implement a new model and vision of men’s ministry. We believe that the result will be men involved in all four areas of focus which will reach the world for Christ. United Methodist Men are responding to the four areas of focus in the following ways:
Improving Global Health...
- Directing UM scout troops in advocacy and fundraising for Imagine No Malaria.
- Caring for hearing impaired Haitian children through Hope of Hearing.
- Anti-tobacco advocacy through Faith United Against Tobacco.
- Domestic Violence advocacy and prevention through Men Ending Violence (MEND) and United Methodist Women.
